Dance Application

Required

Students eligible to apply to the program must meet the following qualifications:

  • Both the student and parent/guardian must be current residents of Charles County.
  • The student must be currently enrolled (SY 2022-23) as an 8th grader in a Charles County Public Schools middle school, a private school, or is homeschooled.


ON-LINE APPLICATION DEADLINE: December 20, 2022

  • Step 1 (now):  Student completes the online application with all required information.  This includes a 30 second video that best showcases the applicant's talent (it can be original choreography).
  • Step 2 (now):  Student AND Parent electronically sign the online application.
  • Step 3 (Nov. 30): Student and Parent may attend an informational meeting at Maurice J. McDonough High School on Nov. 30, 2022.  Audition choreography sent to families to memorize.
  • Step 4 (Feb. 11):  Auditions at McDonough on Feb. 11, 2023.

Admission decisions are made based on the following criteria:

  • 70%  Student Assessment, based on potential not previous experience
  • 15%  Academic performance in sixth and seventh grade, first semester of eighth grade and as it relates to the program of choice
  • 10%  Application questions and video
  •   5%  Middle School Attendance - sixth grade, seventh grade, and first semester of eighth grade.  *Due to Covid-19 pandemic, all students will be credited the full 5% for attendance.


Acceptance Requirements
In March 2023, letters of acceptance will be mailed. The letter of acceptance will contain an acceptance/decline agreement. Within two weeks of receipt, the acceptance/decline agreement must be signed and returned.  If the acceptance agreement is not received within two weeks, Maurice J. McDonough High School will consider the acceptance as declined by the parent and the student. 

Students who are accepted will attend Maurice J. McDonough High School at the start of the 2023-24 school year.  Transportation will be provided by CCPS. If the student decides to drop the Dance program and/or fail any of the Dance program courses, he/she will be withdrawn from the program and McDonough High School at the conclusion of the school year. The student will be required to enroll in their zoned high school for the next school year.

Special note for non-CCPS students: If accepted, the parent will need to register their student in Charles County Public Schools which includes submitting two proofs of legal Charles County residency.

APPLICATION QUESTIONS
 

A 30-SECOND VIDEO THAT BEST SHOWCASES YOUR TALENT. 

It can be original choreography.  The video file must be in .mp4 or .mov format and no larger than 20MB.  We suggest using medium quality resolution.  If the video size is over 20MB, you can provide a link to the video from either OneDrive or Google Drive.  Please make sure the link is viewable for anyone that has the link.

REPORT CARD UPLOAD

For CCPS students and parents, report cards can be found in ParentVue or StudentVue under Grading & Attendance Reports.  Download the Q4 report card for grade 6 and grade 7. When you click Select File below you should select the report file for the grade from your computer where you download it.

For non-CCPS students, either scan or take of photo of your report card.

Important!
Applications submitted after 3 p.m. on Dec. 20, 2022 will not be processed. This form has not been successfully submitted until the Submit button has been clicked and the form is replaced with a success message.

A confirmation email with the application information will be sent to the parent email provided in the application. The email confirmation is sent from noreply@ccboecom.myenotice.com. Please save the confirmation email as verification of submission of your application.
